Current project

I’m currently working on a request for an Army MP badge.  It’s kind of a strange animal, since as far as I can determine badges are not authorized for most military police.

Another issue with it is the seal in the middle.

This is the standard Army seal, with one exception:  The flags are reversed.  I’ve checked google image search and most of the badge pictures I’ve found are just like this.  I’ve found no official images of the badge.

This violates the protocol for display of the flag.  So that creates a problem for me, since I am determined to recreate these emblems as accurately as I can, including errors I find in them.  I want what I create to match what is being worn on uniforms by active duty members of our military.  On the other hand, I don’t want to violate flag protocol.

So that leaves me with creating this badge and using the standard army seal rather than the one pictured.  Now I had not intended to make an army seal, it’s readily available on VectorArt3d.com.  The person who requested it commented that he already has the seal just needs the badge part, so I have decided that that’s what I’m going to create.  This model will go on my site with a hole in the center to add the seal from another source.  Or a clock or something I guess.

As always, feedback is welcome, just not here. 🙂  Comments are disabled due to the truly ridiculous ratio of spam to real comment, so use the contact form on the site or email your comments to info@cncmilitaryemblems.com.

Site update

I’ve been working on a new setup for my product pages.  Until now I was using a standard gallery to display the images and a drop down list to select what you want to order with an add to cart button.  This allowed you to continuously click the next button and cycle through all the images on that page.  Unfortunately, as I added more models, this became too cumbersome to continue.

The new setup is not a gallery and there is no drop down box.  Each model is now displayed in a larger picture looking straight down z, with a plus sign in the corner.  If you click on the picture or the text describing the picture it will take you to the purchase page.  Clicking on the plus sign will open a new window with a larger angled view of the model.  Clicking on the text at the bottom describing the combo pack will take you to the combo pack purchase page.

On another note, I broke the images on my blog last week without noticing.  I had a person hot link a picture from my site as his avatar in a forum he used frequently, which caused my stats to shoot up.  Every time a page was loaded with that image hotlinked counted as a visit to my site.  My visitor count doubled but there was no corresponding increase in sample downloads.  I joined the forum for no other reason to send him a pm and ask him to stop, but he ignored me so I disabled hotlinking to images on my site.  This resulted in my visitor stats dropping back down but I failed to whitelist my blog.  Fixed now.  I’ve also whitelisted several forums including vectric, shopbot, carvewright and joescnc.

As always, feedback is welcome.

Pause…

I will be taking a break from unrequested modelling for a little while.  I just finished a custom project that took way too long due to pain in my wrist.  It seems to be carpal tunnel so I’ll be attempting to rehab it for a little while hoping to avoid surgery.

If you need something go ahead and request it and I’ll do it, it just may take longer than usual since I can’t just sit here for hours with the mouse in my hand.
