I want to explain what I mean by “semi-custom”.  The LDO Mustang plaque is not an official military emblem but it’s one I’ve been asked for several times.  Hard and fast rule is if it’s not an official military emblem it’s custom modeling, and I charge at least $175 for a custom model.  That’s $175 for a basic model with not much detail.  This is not one of those.  So far nobody has been willing to meet my price for it.  This time though is different.  This time I had been thinking about the new website I want to put up for non-military emblems.  I have a bunch of stuff I’ve made that I would like to offer but I don’t want anything but official military emblems on this site.  There also is the matter of price.  I’m happy with my $25/$50 price structure for the military emblems, and I’m happy taking requests without charging for them.  Any time the queue gets big I get suggestions to charge for requests, or charge for priority, or that obviously since this genre of modeling has turned out to be so popular I could get away with raising my price.  I probably could.  I simply don’t want to.  Could that change in the future?  Sure, but for right now that’s where it is.  This other stuff though, is a different matter.  It’s going to be priced on the same basis as custom modeling, how much time I spend on it.  Not as much since I’ll be offering it for general sale where custom is confidential between me and the buyer, but not necessarily $25/$50.  For instance, the M4 in my free sample is not a $25 model, that thing took me two weeks to make and I took pains to make it as accurate as I could.  Anyway, I’m rambling, so I’ll cut to the chase.  The LDO Mustang plaque will be available on another site at some point but will not be $25.  If you want something that I have but don’t offer on this site, e-mail me and we’ll see if we can work something out.

I have removed one model, Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne).  While uploading the two I just finished I found that the image I used to make that model was not that of an official military emblem but had text added around the edges.  It was an excellent image and the guy who did it does fantastic work, but it’s not suitable for my purposes, mostly because his versions look way better than the official versions.  Tomorrow I’ll be re-making the versions, zips and pictures for it and I’ll put it back online when I upload the 82nd Security Forces Sq crest.

The queue is getting pretty deep.  At this point we’re looking at months in the future for anything requested.

I work the requests in the order received, unless someone has a deadline to meet in which case that job will be moved up to meet that deadline ahead of other jobs that don’t have deadlines.  The other reason I may not work in the order requested is when the queue gets like this I’ll sometimes cherry pick out the easiest ones to knock the queue down a little bit.  I’ll be doing that this week.  I have two that are modifications of existing models and a few that I already have most of the pieces made which I’ll be knocking out, so those will be getting done out of order.  The signal corps crest is almost done, I just need to finish feathering the eagle and make his toes so I’m planning to finish that today.  With luck I’ll get that and a couple more uploaded tonight.

Also, a quick note on deadlines.  When you give me the date you need it, don’t give me the date you have to deliver the finished product to your customer, give me the date you need the model to start working on your product.  I have no idea how fast your machine can cut 3d, if your z can move like a sewing machine you can really rip through a 3d model.  I also don’t know if you’re going to do a french polish or spray some poly out of a rattle can to finish or something in between.  (If you do a french polish on a 3d model shoot some video, I’d love to see that.)  Bear in mind that if you tell me you need it on August 1st I’ll do my best to have it to you before midnight on that date, so if you need to start cutting it on August 1st you need to tell me July 31st.
